How to sign in to a Zoom Meeting

Question: I received an email invitation from a group of friends to join a Zoom meeting. I’ve never done this before. How do I join a Zoom meeting?

Answer: You’re not alone. Many people are using Zoom for the first time these days, whether to virtually hang out with friends and family or participate in a community meeting. Here are the steps to take to join a Zoom meeting on your computer:

  1. First, you’ll need to visit zoom.us/download to download the Zoom desktop app on your PC or Mac.
  2. Open the Zoom app.
  3. Click on the meeting invite URL that the host shared via email.
  4. Approve the request for permission to use your computer’s audio and camera. (Depending on the meeting’s setup, you may enter the meeting right away, you may need to wait for the host to arrive first, or you may be placed into a waiting room that the host controls.)

You can get more information, including how to use Zoom on your phone, at support.zoom.us/hc/en-us.

This is a combined meeting of the El Paso Amateur Radio Club (W5ES) and the Sun City Amateur Radio Club (K5WPH).

This is a great opportunity to meet face-to-face with the regional ARRL leadership, find out what the ARRL is doing, ask questions, voice concerns, etc.

Holiday Season and Year End Thank You

As we move through the holiday season and approach the end of the
calendar year reflection on the year past is on our minds. I think of
the advances we’ve made in amateur radio, especially in the West Texas
Section and the people that have made it happen and continue to make it
happen.

As Section Manager I rely on my Assistant Section Managers, our
Affiliated Club Coordinator, and our Public Information Coordinator who
also serves as our Section Webmaster and our emergency management folks.
Thank you for your time and effort you put forth in support of our
fellow hams.

Our Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) staff do a tremendous job at
helping keep our community’s safe by giving selflessly of their time
and providing their own equipment to serve their respective communities.
Working with government and other agencies, ARES members provide much
needed communication support when infrastructure goes down or is
overloaded.

The ARES Section Emergency Coordinator, District Emergency Coordinators
and County Emergency Coordinators and their teams are the front line
folks that serve our communities in times of crisis. These individuals
put forth innumerable hours in training and emergency preparedness to
ensure professional support is available for their communities in times
of need.

Thank you ALL for your efforts and professionalism!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Field Day June 22-23, 2019

Dale Durham, W5WI, Re-elected WTX section Manager

Time flies!  Field Day this year has caught a lot of us by surprise.
This year June has five weekends and since Field Day falls on the fourth
weekend of June, many of us are not ready.

In checking the Field Day locator on the ARRL webpage I don’t see many
West Texas Section clubs listed as having Field Day activities.  If your
club is planning on participating in Field Day and they are not already
listed on the Locator, please do so.
