Texas Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service volunteers are organized under the Texas Division of Emergency Management. Members are required to apply and subject to a background check that will allow them to be in sensitive communication environment if needed.
The primary mission of the Texas RACES organization is to provide for the Continuity of Governance in support of Texas Division of Emergency Management objectives. RACES members prepare and train to bridge the gap in communications during a disruption of voice or data systems used by counties and cities.
Government entities and agencies can request RACES assistance through TDEM in a time of need. Texas RACES is also available to work with any other member of the Communications Coordination Group responding to a Texas Division of Emergency Management incident.
